Krаstin Nastev is conductor of the Varna Opera and head of the annual masterclass for choral conductors in Plovdiv. He studied conducting at the Music Academies in Plovdiv, Sofia, Barcelona, Basel (Switzerland) and the Summer Academy in Siena. In the early stage of his studies he took conducting lessons with Mo. Georgi Dimitrov, and later attended conducting courses of Alan Hazeldine, Mark Shanahan, Bruno Aprea, Gianluigi Gellmetti, Donato Renzetti, Lutz Köhler, Frieder Bernius, Raphael Immoos, Georg Grün, Vassil Kazandjiev and the vocal master classes of Raina Kabaivanska, Montserrat Caballé, Darina Takova, Raúl Giménez, Kaludi Kaludov and Ramón Vargas. He was distinguished with a special prize at the competition for choral conductors, organized by the Europa Cantat International Choral Federation in 2013 in St. Petersburg, and in 2007 reached the final round of the Mariele Ventre competition for choral conductors in Bologna, Italy. In 2000 he won the Third Prize at the Academic Bach Competition for Pianists, organized by the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts, Plovdiv. He participated in the juries of the International Choral Festivals in St. Petersburg (2014), Hong Kong (2015) and Paralia, Greece (2022). He made his debut on the stage of the Sofia Opera with Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, conducted the Sofia Philharmonic and the National Philharmonic Choir and made studio recordings with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra. As a guest conductor, he has conducted the Plovdiv Opera, Pleven Philharmonic, Shumen Symphony Orchestra, the Antalya, Bursa and Eskisehir Orchestras (Turkey), the Ankara Radio Choir, the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra in Enschede, the Malaga Youth Orchestra (Spain), the Berlin Sinfonietta (Germany). As a choral conductor he has worked with the Plovdiv Opera, the Antalya Opera, the Teatre del Cercle in Barcelona and the Regional Symphony Choir of Madrid. In 2018 he was invited to assist in the preparation of the opera The Flying Dutchman for the opera festival in Selzach, Switzerland. Between 2011-2018 he conducted various choirs in Spain, Germany and Switzerland and directed the choirs of the Antalya Conservatory and the Barcelona School of Music. At the beginning of 2022 he led a masterclass for choral conductors, at the invitation of the Choral Federation in Valencia, Spain.
