Heavenly Light

HEAVENLY LIGHT (2018): The austere, contemplative asceticism of my piece is similar to that of the ancient Renaissance form passacaglia. However, the nature of this similarity is stylistic rather than formal. Although our rational age leaves less and less room for mysticism and meditation, sometimes it suffices to take a few moments and have a look at the star studded sky, in order to be reminded that the surrounding world and human existence cannot be reduced solely to what we can see or touch with our fingers. Philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, who proclaimed that music is the most powerful and penetrating art, wrote: "When I listen to music, my imagination leads me to the thought that the life of all people and my [own] life is nothing more than dreams dreamed by an eternal spirit, dreams good and bad, for which death [comes as] an awakening."
