The pathos-filled Concerto Aria for bass, Mentre ti lascio, o figlia (While I leave you, O daughter), was composed on March 23rd , 1787, in Vienna, during his work on Don Giovanni. The text is from Paisiello’s opera La disfatta di Dario (The Defeat of Dario), staged in Rome in 1776, to a libretto by Carlo Diodati Morbilli. It was written especially for Mozart’s close friend, the famous singer Gottfried von Jacquin.
