Concerto for Horn and Orchestra No.2 in E-flat major, K. 417

About the work

The Concerto No 2 for French horn was in fact the first concerto for Liedgeb completed by Mozart in 1783 (the previous D major concerto of 1781 remained unfinished). Knowing the typical skills of the French horn player, Mozart built up the slow movement with elegant poetry, and filled the opening Allegro and final Rondo with nimble virtuosic passages in a wide melodic range.
