Music for Two Pianos

Simeon Pironkov's restrained sensibility, which seeks expression in aesthetic filigree and exquisite playing, in the perfect purity of form, finds new dimensions in the spaces of the instrumental concerto in his mature years. The first opus is MUSIC FOR TWO PIANOS AND ORCHESTRA, commissioned by the city of Nuremberg (Germany) and premiered by pianists Helmut Vivell and Hans-Peter Müller with the Nuremberg Philharmonic conducted by Lubomir Romansky on January 17^th , 1974 at the Meistersingerhalle. Even here, the composer's vision of an instrumental concerto was clear, his pieties for a specific timbral individuality that did not distort or cross-reference into unusual sound fields, but for all the abundance of colouristic inventions and the deployment of a virtuosic technical arsenal, preserved the immanent tonal nature of the keyboard to the maximum. Simeon Pironkov followed this concept in his later concertos for cello, flute and violin, in The Memory of a Piano. And perhaps it is precisely the concerto as a principle that represents the immanent state of mind of the composer himself - a continuous dialogue of the "soloist" with the world, to which he is constantly listening and by which he wants to be heard.
