Concert for violin and orchestra

The Concert for violin and orchestra is a work, which can be construed both as a teaser and gesture of reverence to the Hollywood’s Golden Era. This is the time of fine music, a feast of nice melodies, the great orchestras, opulent orchestration and texture, a kind of peak in the twentieth century music. The concert is conceived in two-movement form, as a romantic work, delicate and sen- suous, generating radiance and positive energy. The Concert is dedicated to Kalina Hristova – the concert master of the So- fia Philharmonic, an outstanding violinist and professional, a charismatic personality reflecting magnetism and brightness, cryptic and intriguing in her performance. Her appearance on stage bears a striking re- semblance to the elegance of those wonderful years of the Hollywood stars. Visually and musically, Kalina could impart the sense of luxury, harmony and style. She made delicate and fine corrections in the technical as- pect of the violin part of the work, without violating its idea and integrity. Her reaction was not one of criticism of me, but rather one of a very pleasant surprise. I can hardly put myself in position to comment on her opinion, but I have the suspicion that she is fond of the concerto. I believe we should surprise performers more often with new works, since this is an instance of incredible artistic contact and dialogue. Through this concert I have tried to evoke the beauty and tradition of a significant twentieth-century epoch. I would be glad if the music brings joy and delight to the audi- ence!”
