Tuba Concerto in F minor

Among the 15 or so varied concert opuses for piano, violin, viola, cello, oboe, harmonica, etc. is the CONCERT FOR TUBE. It was composed by the already 82-year-old composer to celebrate the London Symphony Orchestra's fiftieth anniversary, especially for principal tubist of the London Symphony Orchestra Philip Catelinet, who together gave the premiere on 13 June 1954 with Sir John Barbirolli conducting. It immediately became one of the composer's best-known works and a major opus in the repertoire for this instrument, recorded by celebrated orchestras and performers for the major publishing companies around the world. The concerto's three distinct movements allow a rich display of the instrument's distinctive timbre across the full range of its possibilities, both in the singing cantilena and in the bravura virtuoso passages.
