Violin Concerto No.5 in A minor

The most frequently played CONCERTO No. 5 for violin and orchestra was composed in 1830, but only the manuscript of the solo part has survived. Several reconstructions of the orchestral accompaniment have been made to it, by Romeo Franzoni and Giusto Daci in the late 19th century and by Marco Anzoletti in the early 20^th century, but they have not been published. In 1958 Vittorio Baglioni commissioned a new reconstruction by Federico Mompellio on behalf of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana and in September 1959 the concerto was premiered, with Franco Gulli as soloist, conducted by Luciano Rosada. The second movement - a slow, melancholy ANDANTE, UN POCO SUSTENUTO - is one of the most moving pages in Paganini's music.
