Symphony No.1 in E major, Op. 17

About the work

SYMPHONY No 1 was completed in 1894. Its structure follows the traditional juxtaposition in the four-part cycle of a powerful initial Allegro, a lyrical Adagio, a rapid Scherzo, and a wide-ranging finale. In all parts there is a hint of the northern landscape, the melancholic poetics alternate with drama and irresistible dynamics, but the music carries messages on a deeper level, requiring penetrating reflection.
