"Musical Moments" for Symphony Orchestra

MUSICAL MOMENTS, in Konstantin Iliev's own words, is a kind of echo of his ideas developed in the famous Fragments (1968) - the work that not only marked a new period in his own creativity, but also blasted open new directions of understanding the national idiom in the Bulgarian musical consciousness. In this mosaic sequence of vivid individual moments, the composer introduces the intonational and metrical characteristics of folklore and, using state-of-the-art devices (aleatoric, sonoristic) and unusual timbral complexes, achieves the associative suggestion of the sound of authentic folk instruments and builds musical pictures with almost visual suggestions. The premiere performance was on January 14^th , 1974 with the Gelsenkirchen Orchestra (Germany) under the conductor's baton.
