Concerto for Trumpet & Orchestra
About the work
The first of the "Montafon" cycle, the TRUMPET CONCERTO "EIRENE" ("Ειρήνη" in Greek means "peace") was written in 2021 for the Society of Friends of Music Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien in Vienna. In it, the musical language is far from avant-garde technological techniques or romanticism, And his compositional expression has nothing to do with esoteric inspirations or program music. –Silvia Thurner wrote (mica-Musikmagazin, 2021). – Herbert Willi feels a close relationship with many musical ones Styles, if they seem authentic and come from a source, from a “primal nature that is inside each of us”. That is subjectively the only thing that is important when listening to music. The concert is in three movements. The first and third movements, which are the most expansive in terms of duration, recreate solitude in nature; they are more meditative and timbrally varied. The middle movement is contrasting, energetic, with echoes of jazz. The trumpet part brings out the virtuosic possibilities and sonic brilliance of the instrument. The concerto was written for the trumpeter Reinhold Friedrich who raves about the concerto: There is an inexplicable magic in this magnificent light/space work which gives both the audience and the musicians great inner pleasure.
