The Concert for violin and orchestra No. 2 was created, on indirect evidence, in 1856, but the premiere performance was given only in 1862 by the author and conductor Anton Rubinstein. It was published in 1879 with a dedication “To my dear friend Pablo Sarasate”. It was cast in the conventional three-movement form, with a sonata allegro for a first movement, in which Wieniawski demonstrated any possible violin technique, combined with magnificent expressiveness and melodicity. The music reflects the dreamy, affectionate spirit of its author, his passion and moments of exultation.
