Sonata XIII for Brass Instruments

Sonata XIII a 8, Ch. 206 from this collection, published in 1615, is a wonderful example of the forgotten etymology of the sonata form - from the Italian word suonare (sound). The aim is harmonic bliss, a delight to the ear. In the 16th century, sonata referred to an instrumental piece and also to a vocal motet applied to instrumental performance.
