Berceuse, Op. 57

BERCEUSE ("Lullaby"), Op. 57, written in 1843-1844, is dedicated to Elise Gavard (1824-1900). Chopin originally titled the piece Variations, as it was a variation on the Polish folk song Już miesiąć zeszedł, psy się uśpily ('The moon has already risen, the dogs are asleep'), a song he recollected from his childhood. When first published in 1845 in London and Leipzig, the title was changed to Berceuse.
