Overture to the Musical The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids

Alexander Vladigerov is the author of three musicals for children based on The Brothers Grimm: Little Red Riding Hood (vocal-symphonic fairy tale, 1969), The Merry Town Musicians (1971) and The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids (1973). The latter is based on a text by Dimitar Dimitrov and a screenplay by Yulia Krasteva. The plot is identical to The Brothers Grimm fairy tale, but the ending is updated according to the concept of the fairy tale. In it the wolf does not die, but is sent to a zoo. The director Yulia Krasteva motivates this fact as follows: The unhappy ending teaches children about revenge, about other manners, and about harmony and understanding between people in nature and in life. In this cheerful musical based on classical jazz, I want everyone, artists and children alike, to sing and dance, their faces radiant with joy. The musical has had dozens of productions not only in Bulgaria, but also in Russia, Greece, Germany and former Yugoslavia. The music brings many quotations in the style of classics to Bulgarian pop. Among the performers of the musical, along with the National Radio Symphony Orchestra, are the artists Antoaneta Dobreva-Neti, Kamen Vodenicharov, Toncho Tokmakchiev, Stoyan Alexiev, Lidia Kulekova and Konstantin Ikonomov.
