"Evening bell"

The song "Evening bell" has unconfirmed authorship. According to some versions, it has a thousand-year history. It is based on the name of Rev. George Svyatogorets (Atonski) from the Georgian Orthodox Church in the Athos monastery from the beginning of the XI century. Legend has it that he is the author of the song in Latin. From there, centuries later, it was transferred to England, Thomas Moore got acquainted to it, translated it and t got back to Russia along mysterious ways. Another version identifies the author as a poet IVAN KOZLOV and composer ALEXANDER ALYABIEV, the first of which was in a state of blindness and paralysis, the second - in exile in Siberia. A third version points to composer John Andrew Stevenson, whose music, however, is far from the familiar Russian version. But the author of the text, Thomas Moore, claims that his own verses are based on "some Russian song." Fourth, Alyabiev's authorship is also disputed in favor of other names, including Vasily Zinoviev's. So far, the most frequently attributed authorship is that of Kozlov - Alyabiev, as a translation of the poems exists in all languages, even Esperanto.
