The star of Metropolitan Opera, Diana Damrau, will open the autumn half-season 2020 of the Sofia Philharmonic with two concerts in Bulgaria Hall. On September 4th and 6th , she will please the audience with a program of opera arias and duets titled “Royal Affairs – Kings and Queens of Opera.” Diana Damrau will partner with the French bass Nicolas Teste. The conductor stand will be taken by Pavel Baleff.
Due to the restrictions on the number of audiences in the halls and the huge interest in the concert manifested by the Bulgarian music connoisseurs, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra managed to negotiate a second date for a meeting with the opera diva.
“Leading coloratura soprano in the world”, according to the American “New York Sun”, Diana Damrau captivated the hearts of the audience with her beautiful voice and exceptional artistry. She is a regular on the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Royal Opera House in London, Bavarian State Opera and Salzburg Festival. Her vast repertoire spans the title roles in Lucia di Lammermoor, Manon Lescaut, Rigoletto, The Barber of Seville, etc. Diana Damrau was also the first singer in Metropolitan Opera history to perform the roles of Pamina and Queen of the Night in different performances of the same run of Mozart’s The Magic Flute . The Metropolitan Opera has been a house in which the soprano has performed her signature roles, been broadcast in HD to cinemas globally. Highlights have included the famous production of La Traviata, in which she partnered with Juan Diego Flores.
Earlier this year, Diana Damrau was the star of the New Year’s concerts of the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Kirill Petrenko.
Diana Damrau is invested as Kammersängerin of the Bavarian State Opera (2007) and holder of the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art (2010)). Her huge collection of awards also includes the prestigious ECHO and the OPUS Klassik.
In Sofia she will partner with the French bass Nicolas Testé, well known from the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the operas in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Paris, Munich, Deutsche Oper-Berlin and others. The two singers are a couple in life. They have 2 children.
In Sofia Damrau and Testé will present arias and duets by Verdi, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, and Tchaikovsky. The conductor of the performance will be Pavel Baleff, who has been working with them since 2013.
