Tsenko Minkin

TSENKO MINKIN (b. 1959) studied composition under prof. Alexander Raychev. At the age of 12 he made his first recordings at the Bulgarian National Radio as a pianist performing his own works. At the age of 15, he wrote a Quartet for percussion, published by Musica State Publishing House, for which Ekran Studio for Television Films at Bulgarian National Television shoot a documentary feature, The Beginning. At the age of 19 he gave his first concert in Sofia featuring chamber and symphonic works. At the age of 20 he began working as a freelance composer, writing film and theatre scores.

Tsenko Minkin has many years of expert activity in the field of culture. From 1995 to 1997 he was an arts consultant for the Sofia Press Agency. From 1998 to 2006 he worked as music editor of “Balkanton”. In 2003 he participated in the film production financing committee at the Bulgarian National Television. He is among the founding members of the MUSICAUTOR Copyright Agency and a member of the Board of Directors (from 1992 to 2009, and from 2009 to 2012 he was Chairman of the Board of the Association), and in the period March – June 2009 he was Executive Director.
He was a member of the Board of the Union of Bulgarian Composers in the years 1993 – 1999, 2008 – 2011, in 2013 he was the Secretary General and since November 2014 he has been the President of the Union.

From 2010 to 2014 he was the Deputy Chairman of the Culture National Fund at the Ministry of Culture.

Tsenko Minkin is the author of over 130 chamber, vocal, symphonic and choral works, theatre music, etc. Among them are: choir-symphonic frescoes Kiprovets 1688 (1988); Message after the lyrics of Dimitar Hristov (1981), Cantata The Bulgarian Language after the poems of Ivan Vazov (2018); Symphony No.1 “Chamber” (1996); The Bay of Dromos (1997), Shakona (2015). ), Symphonic Poem (2019); concertos for violin (1980), trumpet (1981) and marimba and orchestra (2014), Musette for violin and orchestra (2002); Two pieces in memory of Petko Staynov – Song and Rachenitsa (2015), and others for string orchestra, works for various instruments, etc.

He has composed music for over 50 feature films and documentaries, 15 of which have won awards at international film festivals. His works have been performed in Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Greece, USA and other countries. He has twice been a member of international juries at the Budapest (Hungary) and Beijing (China) film festivals.

Tsenko Minkin has won prestigious awards: “The Golden Lyre” at the “Sliven Fires” festival (1979); The Award of the Union of Bulgarian Writers for contribution to Bulgarian literature (1996); Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Culture for contribution to the development and popularization of Bulgarian culture (1998); “Sofia Prize” for music (1989); “Golden Staves” of the Union of Bulgarian Composers for Holy Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom (2005), “Golden Century” star of the Ministry of Culture (2019).
