Martin Palmeri is an Argentine composer, pianist and conductor, born on 19 July 1965 in Buenos Aires. He studied composition with Daniel Montes, Marcelo Chevalier, Rodolfo Mederos, Virtú Maragno and Edgar Grana (New York), choral conducting with Antonio Russo and Nestor Zadoff, conducting with Mario Benzecry, singing with Amalia and Estevez Create, and piano with Eduardo Paez and Orlando Tripodi. As choral director, Palmeri has led the Choir of the Faculty of Law (UBA), the Polyphonic Town Choir of Vicente López, Vocal Sospir, the Colegio Esclavas del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús de Belgrano (College of the Slaves of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Belgrano), the Escuela Argentina Modelo (Argentina Modelo School), the Music School of Buenos Aires, Vocal del Quartier (Paraná) (local singing group of Paraná).
Palmeri has written numerous choral and instrumental works and operas, several of his compositions have been recorded on CDs released in Italy, Latvia and Argentina, including: Tango del Bicentenario (Bicentennial Tango), first performed by the Qatar Symphony Orchestra and released by the Qatar Symphony; the opera Matthew premiered at the Teatro Roma in Avellaneda (1999) and recorded by the State Radio Bratislava (Slovakia); Fantasía tanguera (Tango Fantasia) premiered in St. Petersburg, Russia (2000); Omens, published in Matera, Italy, (2001) Presagios (Portents), premiered in Matera, Italy (2001); Concerto for bandoneon at Teatro Roma in Avellaneda (2004); Oratorio de Navidad (Christmas Oratorio) performed for the first time at the Faculty of Law of the SAB (2003), Canto de la lejanía (Song of Distance) premiered in 2010 by the Choral Society of Buenos Aires and published in the same year. Negro y negro (Black and Black), Sobre las cuatro estaciones (For the Four Seasons), etc. In late April 2017, the composition Tango Credo was premiered at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, the concert was organized by DCINY. In March 2017 the work for tango orchestra, chorus and mezzo-soprano soloist La Creación (The Creation) was premiered in Switzerland. The success of Misatango (“Misa a Buenos Aires”), the Tango Mass “Buenos Aires”, was particularly great. In June 2019 was the world premiere of Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei at Carnegie Hall in New York along with Gloria (2015), Credo (2017) and the Tango-Messa organized by DCINY.
The National Foundation for the Arts awarded him First Prize in 2003 for a symphonic work category in the Composition Competition for his work Concierto de danzas para cello y orquesta (Concerto of Dances for Cello and Orchestra). The National University of Rosario awarded him First Prize in the National Choral Arrangement Competition in 2010. Palmeri was awarded First Prize in the Choral Arrangement Competition organised by AAMCANT in 2011.
