The ambience collector Maarten Spruijt is always looking for a representation of the zeitgeist. Born in 1980, he studied music technology at the Faculty of Art, Music and Technology in Hilversum, the Netherlands. Here he got Master degree cum laude in Composition in Context. Today Maarten Spruijt is one of the main film composers in the Netherlands and is known as one of the leading producers and developers of the virtual orchestra. He wrote the music score for the film The Seven of Daran: The Battle of Pareo Rock (directed by Lourens Blok), which was nominated for the Dutch Golden Calf Award for Best Music in 2008; and the music for M.A.N. – With Other Names (directed by Robert Matser and starring actors Isa Hoes, Medina Schuurmann and Peter Faber), where Carel Kraayenhof plays the bandoneon. Spruijt has also written a number of scores in collaboration with composer Fred Vogels, such as Captain Robb and the Mystery of Professor Lupardi (directed by Hans Pos and starring Thijs Römer, Katja Schuurman, Arjan Ederveen), Down Arms (directed by Maria Peters), Timbuktu (directed by Dave Schramm) and the TV series Boks (Shooting Star).  The main tango was later arranged and performed by the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble at their Matinee concert in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in 2008. In 2006 Maarten wrote the opening piece for the Gelders Fanfare Orkest conducted by Thiemen Botma. The composer is frequently invited to give lectures and masterclasses on exemplary orchestration and scores for paintings. In 2002 he partnered with media composer Vincent Beijer and composer-arranger Marco Deegenaars and founded the music company ProjectSAM, which develops, produces and markets top-notch sound libraries, including the best-selling Symphobia library. ProjectSAM has become a highly respected developer of music sample libraries that are used by the world’s leading composers of music for film, television and video games.
