Ivan Filev (b. 1941) graduated from the State Academy of Music in 1968 majoring in Composition under Professor Marin Goleminov and Professor Alexander Raychev and Conducting under Professor Konstantin Iliev. His conducting activity began at the Ruse Philharmonic, where he was promoted chief conductor. He conducted the orchestra at the Chamber Opera in Blaloevgrad, the orchestra at the Varna Opera (since 1983). In 1987 he was promoted Artistic Director of the Varna Opera. Since 1990 he has been conducting the Cairo Opera House.
He wrote works for symphony and string orchestra, chamber works, choral songs, jazz compositions, theatre music, etc. He was awarded by the International Composers’ Symposium in Budapest, the Union of Bulgarian Composers, etc.
