Žarko Mirković

Biography

Žarko Mirković (b. 1952) is a Montenegrin composer, born 15 August 1952 in Cetinje. He is most famous for the modern arrangement to the national anthem of Montenegro, Oj, svijetla majska zoro. He graduated in composing from the Faculty of Music of the University of Arts in Belgrade. He is a full-time professor of composition and orchestration at the Music Academy of Cetinje, and provost for international cooperation at the University of Montenegro. In 2006 he was appointed director of the Montenegrin Music Centre, which has the aim of promoting musical culture. Mirković is a member of the Montenegrin Academy of Science and Arts (CANU). Mirković was on the Council of Radio Television of Montenegro (RTCG), until his resignation in 2021. He has composed over 60 pieces for choir, solo instruments, chamber and symphony orchestras, film and the theatre.
