Youliana Tochkova-Patrouilleau

Biography

Yuliana Tochkova-Patrouilleau (b. 1965) graduated from the State Academy of Music in 1989 majoring in Composition under Professor ParashkevВ Hadjiev and Professor Dimitar Tapkoff. She won a scholarship of the Union of Bulgarian Composers and went to France where she specialised in Harp with B. Sylvestre and studied new composition techniques. She worked with eminent musicians such as J. J. Werner – composer and conductor, Anni Jodri – violinist, the conductors Jean-Claude Casadessus, Dominic Patrouilleau, G. G. Reibel and others. She won a golden medal and a State Diploma of Professor of Harp. She currently works as lecturer in Music Theory and Composition at the National Music School in Chartres (France). She composed theatre, chamber symphonic and other music works. Her graduation Concerto for harp and orchestra written in 1993 was recorded by Gega New and performed by the Bankya Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Dominic Patrouilleau, with the composer herself as soloist. Her music language is rich with various composition techniques subordinated to the emotional and poetic expression.
