Yalchin Adigezalov

Biography
YALCHIN ADIGEZALOV (b. 1959) is a distinguished conductor, teacher and promoter of the national music of Azerbaijan. He was born in Baku into the family of composer Vasif Adigezalov. He began studying piano at the age of 8 at the Music School of the Azerbaijan State Conservatory and graduated from its piano faculty in 1982. He studied at the Faculty of Opera and Symphonic Conducting, fi rst at the
Tashkent Conservatory (1983 – 1984), and then in St. Petersburg under Prof. Ilya Musin (1984 – 1989). He was the fi rst representative of Azerbaijan to enter the Vienna Academy of Music and Performing Arts, studying with Prof. Karl Österreicher (1990 – 1992).
Since 1989 Yalchin Adigezalov has been working as a conductor and from 1991 to 1998 he was artistic director and chief conductor of the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra (ASSO) and made a major contribution to its preservation. He has given numerous premieres of classical repertoire in his country and has actively promoted the works of Azerbaijani composers throughout the world. He is conductor of:
the State Symphony Orchestra of Radio and Television of Russia (1998 – 2000), Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and
Ballet Theatre (since 2000), Istanbul State Opera (2001 – 2004). Since 2002 he has worked closely with the Helikon Opera in Moscow. Since 2018 he has been the artistic director of the Dede Gorgud Chamber Orchestra, established under the patronage of the International Fund for Turkic Culture and Heritage, including musicians from six Turkic-speaking countries, with which he has toured Turkey, Azerbaijan and Finland. Prof. Adigezalov has taught at the Baku Music Academy and the Azerbaijan State Conservatory for more than a quarter of a century, and his students have held leading positions in the country.
Yalchin Adigezalov has toured many countries, engaging in numerous domestic and international projects and conducting many foreign orchestras. He has performed with Britain’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, the State Symphony Orchestra Mexico, the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Zagreb Chamber Orchestra, the Brasov Philharmonic Orchestra, the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, The Budapest Danube Symphony Orchestra, as well as the National Symphony Orchestras of Germany, Luxembourg, Spain, Vietnam, China and Russia, the St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, and the Philharmonic Orchestras of Moscow, Riga, Yekaterinburg, Minsk, Chisinau, Kharkov, Dnepr, Astana, Izmir, Liepaja, Adana and Bishkek and he has performed frequently with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Ankara. He has regularly conducted opera troupes in the cities of Kyiv, Minsk, Tashkent, Lviv, Chisinau, Tbilisi, Astana, Odessa and Samsun, and has worked with the soloists Mstislav Rostropovich, Nikolai Petrov, Boris Berezovsky, Hagai Shaham, Ivan Monigetti, Sergei Stadler, Dmitri Kogan, Idil Biret, Richard Galliano and Al Bano, among others.
