Vlastimir Nikolovsky

North Macedonian composer Vlastimir Nikolovski (1925–2001) was born in Prilep. Both his parents were professional musicians from whom he received elementary musical education. He graduated from the Secondary School of Music in Skopje and subsequently studied composition with Evlahov at the Leningrad Conservatory. In 1955, he returned to Yugoslavia, where he took courses at the Belgrade Academy of Music. Upon graduation, he settled in Skopje and became active as a teacher and as director of musical programming for the state radio. In 1976, he was appointed a corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of Macedonia. In his music, he makes use of a number of native instruments, particularly percussion. Among his works are three symphonies, a Piano Concerto, two oratorios, a Violin Sonata, a Cello Sonata, a Piano Sonata, a String Quartet, and a number of choruses on Macedonian themes.
