Vitali Alekseenok

VITALI ALEKSEENOK is Principal Guest Conductor at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, and from the 2024/25 season will be Principal Conductor at Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, where from 2023 he has been the First Kapellmeister and Deputy Music Director, in collaboration with conductor Axel Kober. There he has conducted productions of Sacre (based on works by Stravinsky and Richard Strauss), Eugene Onegin, Manfred Trojahn's September Sonata, Demis Volpi's ballet Surrogate Cities to music by Heiner Goebbels, and performances of Turandot, Tosca, Hansel and Gretel, The Maid of Orleans and The Magic Flute. In the 2023/24 season he conducted the London premiere of King Stach's Wild Hunt in Barbican Centre and Per Gynt at Teatro Massimo Bellini. Upcoming engagements include concerts with the RTÉ (Irish National Television and Radio) Orchestra, the Klangforum Vienna, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Next season he will make his debut at the Staatsoper Hamburg with the premiere of a ballet by Demis Volpi, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie in Chemnitz, the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck and the Symphony Orchestra of Sønderjylland (Denmark). At Teatro Massimo Bellini he will conduct the Trilogy of Ecstasy and Mahler's Third Symphony, and at Deutsche Oper am Rhein he will conduct Nabucco, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, La Traviata, Cinderella, Das Rheingold and Eugene Onegin. In previous seasons he has conducted orchestras such as the MDR Radio Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Staatskapelle Weimar, Lucerne Festival Strings, Toscanini Orchestra in Parma, Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, among others.. He has worked at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Operas in Graz, Odessa and Varna. In 2021 he conducted the first Ukrainian performance of Tristan und Isolde at the National Opera of Ukraine. In 2022/23 he made his debut at the Scala di Milano with the premiere of Rachel Portman's opera The Little Prince, guest conducting at the Beethoven Festival in Bonn, the Ludwigsburg and Salzburg Festivals. Vitaly Alekseenok has studied conducting in St Petersburg and Weimar, and has attended a number of masterclasses. In 2021 he won first prize at the Arturo Toscanini Competition in Parma, where he also received the Audience Award and the prize for the best performance of a Verdi opera. He is the author of the book The White Days of Minsk (S. Fischer Frankfurt, 2021), and since 2021 he has been the artistic director of the Kharkiv Music Festival.
