Biography

After graduating from the Academy of Music in Sofia, Zvetelina Vassileva (Soprano) made her debut with success on the stage of the Sofia Opera House in the role of Amelia from Un ballo in maschera. She established herself as a Verdi singer and in the following seasons performed the central roles of Elisabetta in Don Carlos, Desdemona in Otello and Leonora in Il trovatore. She was a prize-winner at the Tito Skippa and Francesco Cilea international competitions in Italy. Zvetelina Vassileva specialised with the famous tenor Carlo Bergonzi in Milan at the La Scala school. She made her debut as Leonora in a San Francisco production, appearing in Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmila and Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea. Her participation in the Wexford International Festival (Ireland) gained her critical acclaim. She has given concerts in most European capitals in the most prestigious concert halls such as the Concertgebouw - Amsterdam (Stravinsky's Wedding), Royal Albert Hall, London (Nights of the Stars Gala Concert with Armiliato, Agnes Baltsa, Daniela Dessi, Rosalind Plowright, Gino Quilico, José Cura, Giuseppe Giacomini), and also in the North America - in Toronto at the George Weston Recital Hall (Joan of Arc by Verdi), etc. Zvetelina Vassileva has worked with some of the most renowned conductors of our time - Anton Guadagno, Maurizio Arena, Daniel Oren, Bernard Haitink, Carlo Rizzi, Marco Armiliato, Nicola Luisotti, Philippe Jordan and others.
