Timo Roessner

Tenor TIMO RÖSSNER, praised by the specialist magazine Opernglas for his excellent diction and warm, lyrical timbre, studied classical singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg with Prof. Mark Tucker and Prof. Jörn Dopfer. He completed his Meisterklassenexamen with distinction at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater ‘Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy', Leipzig in the class of Prof. Berthold Schmid. He further enhances his training through masterclasses with Margreet Honig, Eric Schneider, Rufus Müller, Thomas Thomaschke, Edda Moser, James Hooper, Doreen DeFeis, and Ingeborg Danz. Additionally, he has a long-standing collaboration with Prof. Gerhart Darmstadt in the field of historically informed performance practice. His solo engagements has taken him to the scenes of Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, the Meininger Staatstheater, as well as opera houses in Kiel, Halle (Saale), Lübeck, Lüneburg, Görlitz, Annaberg-Buchholz, Altenburg, Gera, and Chemnitz, performing roles such as Adam, Andres, Camille de Rosillon, Cassio, Hans, Nemorino, Pedrillo, and Steuermann. Praised for his outstanding interpretations of Bach's Passions Evangelist roles, his concert repertoire includes works such as Händel's Messiah, Haydn's Schöpfung, Mozart's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Paulus and Elias, as well as works by Orff (Catulli Carmina), Stravinsky (Les Noces), Rossini (Petite Messe Solennelle), and Verdi (Messa da Requiem). Performing Schubert's Winterreise in the orchestral arrangement by Hans Zender and Britten's Saint Nicolas are among his personal musical highlights in recent years. His artistic development has also been shaped by collaborations with contemporary composers such as Antonis Adamopoulos, Thomas Dorsch, Oliver Ostermann, Benjamin Scheuer, Stephan Peiffer, and Ursula Mamlok. Timo Rössner is a prizewinner of various competitions and has been supported by the mArts program. He teaches singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and at the Internationales Seminar für Alte Musik in Austria.
