Austrian baritone THOMAS WEIN HAPPEL took his first singing lessons while a member of the Vienna Boys’ Choir (Wiener Sängerknaben). After his studies at the University of Music and Performing arts Vienna, Weinhappel impressedaudienceswithhisoutstanding stage presence, vocal brilliance and expressive acting as Escamillo, Guglielmo, Papageno, Almaviva, Don Giovanni and Tarquinius in Singapore, Moscow, Chicago, Los Angeles as well as in Austria, and Germany. Following his visit to the Czech Republic he became the first Austrian opera singer awarded the Czech 2016 Thalia Award for his exceptional performances as Hamlet. The bestowal of the prize designated him as the best opera singer of the year 2016. Recently Thomas Weinhappel has been awarded once again, this time with the Libuska Award at the Opera 2017 Festival in Prague by the festival’s jury of critics for his outstanding rendition and interpretation of Hamlet. Opera is his favourite area, but he has engaged in performances of operetta, musical and Lied.
