Theo Rüster

Tenor THEO RÜSTER was born in Ludwigsfelde, near Berlin. He gained his first stage experience in musicals. He was a naitional prize winner of the "Jugend musiziert" competition and won third prize in the MUT competition at the Gärtnerplatz Theatre in Munich (2015). He completed his training in opera and song singing with Prof. Aris Argyris at the Berlin University of the Arts. He has participated in master classes with Nadine Secunde, Wolfgang Millgramm, Sylvia Greenberg, David Aronson, and Burkhard Friedrich. From autumn 2015 to 2019, he played the role of of Célestin Formant in Pal Abraham's operetta Ball in Savoy at the Komische Oper in Berlin, directed by Barry Kosky, and returned there in the 2021-2023 seasons. He has performed as a tenor soloist in various concert halls and churches in Berlin in Mozart's Requiem and Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle. His repertoire includes a wide variety of roles: First Armoured Man and Monostatos in The Magic Flute Reloaded at the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth and at the Prinzregententheater in Munich. He sang as cover Don Ottavio in a production of Don Giovanni in Be'er Sheva, Israel, with the Israel Sinfonietta under the baton of Nir Kabaretti, and in the world premiere of Pippi Longstocking by Franz Wittenbrink, conducted by Matthew Toogood (2019). He participated as a tenor soloist in the Berlin premiere of the Craig Hella Johnson's Considering Matthew Shepard at the Gethsemane Church under the baton of Sergi Gili Solé. He created the roles of the teacher and the pastor in the world premiere of Kurt Weill's Tom Sawyer at the Komische Oper under the baton of Kai Tietje and directed by Tobias Ribitzki (2023) and returned to the opera in the 2024/2025 season. Highlights from the last two years also include: participation in the revived production of Pippi Longstocking at the Komische Oper in the Schiller Theater and the new production of the operetta Messeschlager Gisela by Gerd Natchinski, conducted by Adam Benzwi. Rüster is a soloist in Jose Luis Larzabal's Stabat Mater in Bonn, he made his Berlin Philharmonic debut in the Chamber Music Hall as tenor soloist in Arthur Honegger's König David under the baton of Sergi Gili Solé and in Oscar Strauss' operetta The Pearls of Cleopatra as Minister Pampilus under the baton of Adam Benzvi. In April 2025, he sang as tenor soloist in Verdi's Requiem in a sing-along concert by Vokalsystem Berlin e.V. under the baton of Johannes David Wolff. Since 2016, he has also been involved in coaching for the Berlin Philharmonic's (Vokalsystem e.V.) "Vokalhelden" project and the preparatory program for the Musical Theater in Berlin-Neukölln.
