The Bulgarian mezzo-soprano SVETLINA STOYANOVA was born in Sofia. As a child she sang for 9 years in the Bulgarian National Radio Children’s Choir, where she was the main soloist and participated in a number of tours in Europe and Asia. In 2010 she left for Scotland and initially studied psychology at the University of Glasgow, and then entered the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, under the tutelage of Clare Shearer. She obtained two Masters degrees (Vocal Performance in 2016 and Opera in 2018).

In 2016 Ms Stoyanova was awarded 3rd Prize and highest ranked female singer in Le Grand Prix de l’Opera, and was subsequently invited to record with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Grigor Palikarov and in 2017 she was awarded 1st prize in the Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition ( New Voices). Following her competition success, Svetlina Stoyanova was invited by Opéra de Nice Côte d’Azur and Anthéa Theatre to perform Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) and the leading role of Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for the Bregenz Festival.

Svetlina Stoyanova joined the Vienna State Opera as a soloist for seasons 2018/19 and 2019/20. She made her house debut as Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos) and also performed the roles of Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia)Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro)Roßweisße (Die Walküre) and Lola (Mascani’s Cavalleria Rusticana), among others. She also appeared in guest performances of the Vienna State Opera as Cherubino at the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg and as Zerlina (Don Giovanni) at the Tonhalle, Düsseldorf.

With the Ensemble Matheus, conducted by Maestro Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Svetlina Stoyanova made her role debut as Isabella (L’Italiana in Algeri), touring in France.
Since 2014, the talented singer has been part of the international Live Music Now organization. In 2016 she performed a solo concert at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh. In 2017, she gave a recital at Bulgaria Chamber Hall as part of the Sofia Music Weeks music festival. In December 2019 she performed a solo recital at the Musikverein Vienna, accompanied by pianist Stephen Hopkins.

Svetlina is the winner of the 2019 Daniel Froschauer Young Singer of the Year Award, participated in the prestigious Samling Artists programme in 2017 and has a silver medal from Musicians’ company. She is one of the 30 young talents in Forbes Magazine’s “30 Under 30” selection for 2019.

In the summer of 2020 she debuted as Angelina (Cinderella by Rossini) at the “New Generation” festival in Florence, Italy. She also debuted at the Bolshoi Theatre as Rosina (February 2021), followed by a debut at the Sofia National Opera as Angelina.

She frequently participates in performances of cantata-oratorio works, such as The Dream of Gerontius by Edward Elgar, Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, Mass in C major by Ludwig van Beethoven, Symphony No. 4 by Gustav Mahler, Mass in D major by Antonin Dvorak, and Mass for Milan by Gioachino Rossini.

Svetlina Stoyanova was awarded in 2020 with a Diploma for contribution to the promotion of Bulgarian culture worldwide by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria.
