Sven-Eric Johanson

SVEN-ERIK JOHANSON was an important institutional figure in twentieth-century Sweden. He was music director at Uppsala Missionskyrka (from 1944), one of the founders of The Monday Group and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music (from 1971). After 1938 he graduated from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm in composition and organ. Following the stylistics of dodecaphony and Ernst Ksenek'on s guidance 12-tone technique, he composed his Sinfonia ostinata (from 1949). From the 1950s until 1977 he served as organist at Hagens kapell (today Älvsborgs kyrka) in Gothenburg. The Fancies cycle was originally composed for piano. Apart from the version for choir and orchestra, it is also performed in other arrangements.
