Stefan Aprodu

ȘTEFAN APRODU is a renowned Romanian violinist, winner of the 30th edition of the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach (2024) and the audience award, as well as second prize winner of the George Enescu International Competition in Bucharest (2022), winner of the Vasco Abadjiev International Violin Competition in Sofia (2021), and third prize winner of the Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition in Brussels (2019). He began studying violin at the age of 7 in Bucharest at the Dinu Lipatti National College of Arts under the guidance of Magdalena Ursu, and is currently a student in the class of Prof. Krzysztof Wegrzyn at the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover, Germany. As a soloist, he often performs with Romanian orchestras, Cameristi della Scala, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, the North American Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra (BNR), Camerata Regală, the Takasaki Orchestra, the Marchigiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vidin Chamber Orchestra, the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra in Szolnok, and others. In addition to his performing skills, he also shows compositional talent, recognized at international composition competitions, including the Julius Röntgen Composition Competition and the Youth Composition Competition. He holds a master's degree in idiomatic music from the class of Prof. Djasele Vodar Sevida at the Dondolo Russo Music Academy in Oslo, Norway. In addition, in 2022, he performed his Violin Concerto in E minor with the Pitești Philharmonic Orchestra. Together with accordionist Nicodem Sobek, he is the founder of Profunduo, a renowned chamber music duo. The ensemble has been awarded two first prizes at the Accordéons-nous.org 2025 competition in Mons (in the "Chamber Music" and "World Music" categories), as well as a special Bugari prize. His performances have been recognised with a grant from the Romanian Academy, one of the most prestigious honours for the achievements of young musicians in Romania, as well as membership in LMN (Yehudi Menuhin – Live Music Now) in Hanover. He is the founder of the Dinu Lipatti Youth Orchestra, with which he has conducted a series of concerts in several Romanian cities. Recordings of Ștefan Aprodu's performances are regularly broadcast on Radio România Muzical, Radio România Cultural, and Romanian National Television. Several works have been released in the series Great Virtuoso Pieces, recorded with the BNR Orchestra and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester.
