Rumyana Kostova

RUMYANA KOSTOVA has appeared on the European stage in the roles of Oriana in Handel's baroque opera Amadis of Gaul (at the Sofia Opera and Ballet), Susanna in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (at the State Operas in Varna, Burgas, and the Konstantin Kisimov Drama Theater), Eurydice in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice (at the Summer Opera Festival in Brescia, Italy) and Ivette in Puccini's La Rondine (at the State Opera in Stara Zagora). She performs the solo parts in Brahms' German Requiem and Handel's Messia on the stage of the Sofia Philharmonic. In addition to her solo career, she is active as an ensemble performer with the vocal groups Dai Monti Verdi (Bulgaria) and Le Bizzarie Poetiche (The Hague). Highlights of her most recent creative season include the concert The Idol Orpheus as part of the Art of Baroque festival, and Days of Music in the Balabanov House under the musical direction of Zephira Vulova. She appeared as solo soprano in Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, conducted by K. Nastev, and recorded for Bulgarian National Radio a cycle of songs on Shakespeare texts by American composer Amy Beach, in collaboration with pianist Margarita Ilieva. She also takes part in the project How Much Jazz is There in Baroque with the Pilecadone Quintet and jazz musicians Hristo Yotsov, Dimitar Karamfilov, and Konstantin Kostov. Kostova was a finalist in the International Handel Competition for Opera Singers in London and a laureate of the Stoyan Popov Competition. She studied opera performance with Darina Takova, Francesca Aspromonte, Rita Dams, and Catherine Davis, and her pursuit of perfection led her to work with Raina Kabaivanska, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Deda Cristina Colonna, and Rosanna Bertini in their master classes on vocal technique and interpretation. She graduated with honors from the Early Music Department of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 2021. During the 2021- 2022 season, she joined the opera studio for young talents at the Opera in Bologna, Italy, and in 2023 she became a scholarship holder at the Boris Christoff Academy in Rome.
