ROBERT COHEN made his concert debut at the Royal Festival Hall London when he was just twelve years of age and throughout the following forty years of his distinguished international career, has been hailed as one of the foremost cellists of our time. New York Stereo Review had a point to make: “It is easy to hear what the fuss is about, he plays like a God”.

Invited to perform concertos all over the world by conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Antal Dorati, Sir Mark Elder, Mariss Jansons, Sir Charles Mackerras, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Kurt Masur, Riccardo Muti, Sir Roger Norrington, Tadaaki Otaka, Sir Simon Rattle, Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Michael Tilson-Thomas, Emil Tabakov, Osmo Vanska, Robert Cohen has also collaborated in chamber music with many renowned soloists and ensembles such as Yehudi Menuhin and the Amadeus String Quartet (including their compact disc with Schubert’s Quintet for DGG), Menahem Pressler, Leonidas Kavakos, Mincho Minchev and Krystian Zimerman.

Robert Cohen made his recording debut at age of nineteen with Elgar’s Violoncello Concerto in collaboration with the London Philharmonic (a recording made for EMI), which earned a silver disc for sales of more than a quarter million copies. Since then, he has released a number of recordings for labels such as BIS, BeArTon, EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, Naxos, Sony and Decca.

Cohen studied with William Pleeth, Jacqueline du Pré and Mstislav Rostropovich. Having developed  as an inspirational teacher, Mr. Cohen conducts master classes and delivers lectures worldwide. Currently holds the position of professor at the Royal Academy of Music, London.

In addition to his solo career, Mr. Cohen directed the Charleston Manor Festival in 1989-2012, played in the legendary Fine Arts Quartet (2012 – 2018), anchored a monthly radio show in the USA on the WUWM program and functions as curator of Highbrow TV and administers the Celloclinic web site. Robert      Cohen   has        been     giving concerts          and    master     classes   in Bulgaria since 2000. He has enjoyed wonderful collaborations with the Sofia Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio, the March Music Days Festival in Rouse and the Varna Summer International Music Festival.

The essence of Cohen as communicator is summed up in an observation made by ‘The Guardian’: “Cohen can hold and audience in the palm of his hand.”
