Rainer Bischof

Austrian composer Rainer Bischof was born in Vienna in 1947. In 1973, he graduated from the University of Vienna, where he studied law, philosophy, art history, and pedagogy. He also studied composition at the Music Academy of Vienna (1965), and took private lessons with the composer Hans Erich Apostel (1967–72). He served as President of the Austrian Composers Union (1984-86), and General Secretary of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra (1988-2005). He was also a lecturer at the Vienna Hochschule für Musik and a President of the International Gustav Mahler Society (1991-2015).
