Radoslav Lazarov

The Bulgarian folklore music, which has always been a part of the Bulgarian spirit, is the main theme of Radoslav Lazarov’s oeuvre. He belongs to those modern composers, who try to keep this old tradition and to transform it into our time without damaging its originality. He wrote his first compositions at the age of 8 years. Dramatic changes and happenings in his personal development led to a period of silence. Out of nowhere came an enlightment personalized in the love of his life. The destiny gave him the answer of his long searching. The magic world of Bulgarian Folklore Tales waked up his creative powers and out of this inspiration, he was able in a short time to compose many works, which were than performed with a big success in Europe. Most popular of them became: Devil’s Fiddle, which had a world premiere in Munich under the baton of Maestro Mariss Jansons. Next performances took part in Stuttgart, Ingolstadt, Rottenburg, Mannheim etc. Song was written for the world famous Mezzosoprano Vesselina Kasarova, which she also sang at her Concerts with Bulgarian Folklore Songs. Toccata misteriosa became one of the most performed pieces of Lazarov. It was played in Paris, Geneve, Zurich, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Essen, Baden-Baden, Bern and Madrid. Bern newspaper „Der Bund“ from 25.11.2015 wrote: „Die Toccata misteriosa aus der Feder des Bulgaren Radoslav Lazarov ist eine Trouvaille von herbem volkstümlichem Charme.” Among Lazarov’s last compositions are Thracian Toccata for piano and Magic week for symphony orchestra, which is a program music based on the Bulgarian Folklore Tale Sedmitsata.
