PLAMEN KUMPIKOV graduated from Asen Selimski’s vocal class at the National Academy of Music in Sofia, then specia- lized with Mirella Parutto and Antonio Boyer at the Boris Christoff Academy of Arts and Culture in Rome. Took part in the master classes of Raina Kabaivanska and of Renato Bruson, organized by the A. Belli Experimental Opera in Spoleto, Italy.

He has sung on the stages of the opera theatres in Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Burgas. Debuted at the Sofia Opera in 2004 as Mr. Peachum in Britten‘s version of The Beggar‘s Opera. In the 2006/2007 season, as a member of the Experimental Opera Theatre in Spoleto, he made a de- but in Japan as Don Basillio from Rossini‘s Barber of Sevilla. Sang the role of Potapych from Sergey Prokofiev’s opera The Gam- bler on the stage of the Unter den Linden opera theatre in Berlin under the direction of Daniel Barenboim. With this role, Pla- men Kumpikov also appeared as a guest on the stage of La Scala in Milan.

He guest performed in Belgium and the Netherlands and during the 2012/2013 season appeared as soloist of the Wroclaw Opera in Poland. In 2015 took part in the premiere of The Enchanted Man, an opera by Bozhidar Spassov, a production of the Plovdiv Opera.

From 2014 Kumpikov is a soloist of the Plovdiv Opera, from the 2015-2016 season – of the Stara Zagora Opera. Guest performed at the Herrenchiemsee Festival in Germany in 2015.

His repertoire also includes the main parts in operas by Mussorgski, Monteverdi, Offenbach, Bizet, Moniuszko, Verdi.
