PLAMEN DZHUROV graduated from the Academy of Music in Sofia in the disciplines of piano, conducting and composition. In the period 1976-1982 he served as conductor at the State Philharmonic Orchestra – Pleven performing a series of premieres of Bulgarian and foreign composers. He has worked with famous Bulgarian and foreign artists and has realized a 24 installment project with different music formations for the National Television entitled Music, Time, Personalities. Dzhurov has performed with Bulgarian and foreign orchestras, including symphony orchestras in Mexico, Havana, Flensburg, Sarajevo, Algeria, Skopje, Leningrad and others.
From 1988 onward, he is the conductor of the Sofia Soloists Chamber Ensemble. Every year, he organizes dozens of concerts of the ensemble in Sofia and the country, discovers and expands new acoustic spaces for public concerts. Their concerts have been recorded by the Bulgarian National Radio and the Bulgarian National Television and some of them have been broadcast abroad. He has conducted the Soloists in hundreds of concerts in over 30 countries of Europe, North America and Asia. Dzhurov is winner of a series of awards for his compositions and conducting artistry.
Among his numerous radio and television recordings (over 300) there are numerous premieres of Bulgarian and foreign authors. Famous labels (Denon, Victor, ABC, Labal Rcords, etc.) have released integral recordings of the works of J. S, Bach, of works for guitar and orchestra, and over 20 other compact-discs under the direction of Plamen Dzhurov. He is responsible for a series of premieres of numerous foreign and Bulgarian composers and for the orchestral debut of many a young Bulgarian talent.
His music compositions focus mainly on instrumental genres. His works have been performed and recorded in a number of foreign countries: Piano Sonata, Elegy for Orchestra, Four Ballads, Toccata for Orchestra, Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra, Metamorphoses and others.
Plamen Dzhurov is a professor of conducting at the Professor Pantcho Vladiguerov National Academy of Music, Sofia. He is among the founders of organizations, concerned with Bulgarian musical heritage – the Boris Hristov, Pancho Vladigerov, Petko Staynov and Sofia Music Weeks foundations. Honorary citizen of Sofia.
