Biography
PLAMEN BEYKOV graduated in opera singing from the Royal College of Music in London and specialized at the Bulgarian Academy of Arts and Culture in Rome under the world‑renowned singer Boris Christoff. For fifteen seasons, he was a soloist with the Ruse Opera. Since July 2018, he has served as dramaturge of the State Opera in Ruse, and since 1 March 2022 he has been its director and artistic director. His operatic repertoire includes more than thirty roles. He has appeared in productions at all Bulgarian opera houses and has toured extensively throughout Europe, as well as in the United States and Japan. As a chamber musician and soloist in cantata‑and‑oratorio repertoire, Plamen Beykov is well known to Bulgarian audiences and has performed in prestigious concert halls in Spain, Russia, Italy, Greece, Germany, Belgium, and the United Kingdom. In 2020, he earned a master’s degree in Musical and Stage Direction from the National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov,” studying in the class of Prof. Dr. Violeta Gorcheva. He has directed productions for the opera houses of Stara Zagora and Ruse. His stagings have been presented at the “Scene of the Centuries” Festival at Tsarevets in Veliko Tarnovo, the Opera and Ballet Art Festival in Stara Zagora, the “Art of Baroque” International Festival in Sofia, and the “March Music Days” International Festival in Ruse. In 2022, his production of the opera The Knight’s Journey by American composer Carl Wolrath, created with the Ruse Children’s Opera and the Orchestra of the Ruse State Opera, received the Crystal Lyre Award of the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers.
