PETER MAKEDONSKI was born in 1988 in Sofia into a family of musicians. His grandfather, Prof. Peter Karparov, was the founder of the trumpet school and the first Bulgarian professor in this discipline. From the age of 10, Peter studied trumpet and music theory at the Lyubomir Pipkov National School of Music, in 2011 he graduated from the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music in the class of Prof. Angel Makedonski. In 2018 he got a PhD on The place of the trumpet concerto by Vassil Kazandjiev in the repertoire of Bulgarian trumpeters. A creative approach to mastering performance problems.

He is a prize winner of a number of competitions and contests: Academic Competition at the Department of Brass Wind and Percussion Instruments of the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov  National Academy of Music, Svetoslav Obretenov National Competition for Singers and Instrumentalists , Young Musical Talents, Ohrid Pearls, The Music and the Earth International Competitions (Grand Prix), Hope, Talents, Masters – Dobrich, International Competition for Chamber Music – Plovdiv and La musique et la Terre – Paris (Grand Prix).

He was a fellow of the Ministry of Culture. For his performance achievements he was awarded the Todorov Scholarship.

He has repeatedly participated as a soloist of the Symphony Orchestra of the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of  Music , Sofia Philharmonic, Sofia Soloists Chamber Ensemble, Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, New Symphony Orchestra, Symphonietta Vratsa, Haskovo Symphony Orchestra, Burgas Opera Orchestra, Symphonietta Shumen, Chicago Philharmonic Illinois, etc.

He performs regularly as a soloist and with the chamber ensembles of the Sofia Philharmonic, such as the Quarto Quartet, ClassicArt, Bella Voce, etc., and takes part in the educational concerts of the children’s program of the Sofia Philharmonic Fortissimo Family. He has participated with the Sofia Symphony Orchestra at the Chigiana Musical Academy, Siena.

As a student, after winning a competition, he worked as a solo trumpeter in the orchestra of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Sofia for three concert seasons. Since 2011 he has held the position of solo trumpet player in the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra until the end of 2022, and from 2018 to date he has held the same position in the Sofia Philharmonic. Since 2023 he has been the Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music.

Together with pianist Nadejda Tzanova they formed a chamber duo in 2015, winning five International Chamber Music Competitions. Thanks to these achievements, they received the prestigious award  Musician of the Year – 2017 of the Allegro Vivace programme of the Bulgarian National Radio in the section “Ensembles”. As a duo they have performed in the USA, Russia, France, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc.

In 2022, together with the virtuoso pianist Ludmil Angelov and bandleonist Stoyan Karaivanov, they created Libertrio, inspired by the music of Astor Piazzolla. The trio’s debut was on 30 June 2022 with the Symphonietta Shumen.

Peter Makedonski has made numerous recordings for the Golden Fund of the Bulgarian National Radio.
