Biography

PENKA KOUNEVA, described as "artist of exceptional talent," writes music in different genres, achieving a remarkable recognition in the specific genres of film score and video-games. She created the scores to popular video games with millions of users such as The Prince of Persia, Transformers (on themes by Steve Jablonski) and The Mummy for the VR format (virtual reality games). She wrote music to the movies Aga directed by Milko Lazarov (presented at 2018 Berlinale), Devil's Whisper, (2017, for Sony Pictures) and the Encounter series. Music of hers was included in NASA's Heroes and Legends Multimedia Exhibition with exposition permanently based at the Kennedy Center. Her orchestral releases The Astronaut Woman and Rebirth of Id were issued by Universal Music and received exceptionally positive reviews from critics with definitions like" fantastic "(Billboard), "breathtaking" (Forbes), etc. Distinguished with grants for composition, with the Game Audio Network Authors Guild Award, an education award from the Duke University. Penka Kouneva is a graduate of the Lyubomir Pipkov National School of Music, Sofia, where she studied piano, and the National Academy of Music in theory (1990). In 1990, she came to the United States for composition studies on a Duke University scholarship. In 1997 defended a Doctorate in Composition at the Duke University and began a career as composer in Hollywood.
