Pavel Berman

PAVEL BERMAN attracted the international attention in 1987 when at the age of 18 he won the second prize at the Paganini Competition and when he won the First Prize and Gold Medal at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis in 1990. Berman has appeared as a soloist and/or conductor with such orchestras as Moscow Virtuosi, Italian Virtuosi, Orchestra RAI of Turin, Santa Cecilia Orchestra, Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Romanian National Radio Orchestra, Prague Symphony, Staatskapelle Dresden, the Berliner Symphoniker, Indianapolis Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Beijing Philharmonic, etc. He has reached audiences at the Carnegie Hall in New York, Théâtre des Champs Elysées and Salle Gaveau in Paris, Herkulessaal in Munich, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo, Teatro alla Scala, Milan. He founded the Kaunas Chamber Orchestra in Lithuania in 1998 and was its artistic director until 2005. He participated in the Rachmaninoff Project presented at the Santa Cecilia Academy and at the Music Weeks Festival in Stresa. Pavel Berman has collaborated with musicians such as Lazar Berman, András Schiff, Bruno Canino, Alexander Rudin, Eliahu Inbal, Daniel Oren, Shlomo Mintz, Alban Gerhardt, and Donald Weilerstein. He has recorded for Koch International, Audiofon, Discover, Phoenix Classics and Dynamic. He has taught masterclasses at numerous academies and is regularly invited to serve on the juries of the International Paganini Competition, the International George Enescu Competition, the Isang Yun Competition, Classical Strings, and many others. In 2021 he became the co-founder and artistic director of the Monteverdi Circle Online Performing Arts Center. Pavel Berman is currently Professor at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and at the Accademia Perosi in Biella, Italy. Among his former students are renowned artists such as the recent winner of the Paganini Competition Giuseppe Gibboni, the concertmaster of the La Scala Orchestra Laura Marzadori, ICMA 2022 Prize winner Gennaro Cardaropoli and many other violinists who have held leading positions in prestigious orchestras. He plays the Antonio Stradivari violin - Cremona 1702, "ex David Oistrakh", kindly provided by the Pro Canale Foundation in Milan. Pavel Berman was born in Moscow in 1970. He studied at the Central School of Music and the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Igor Bezrodniy and then went to the Juilliard School in New York, where he studied with Dorothy DeLey and later with Isaac Stern.
