Since 2022 PAVEL BALEFF has been the Principal Conductor of the Opéra de Limoges – France, General Musical Director of the Theater Nordhausen – Germany, since the 2022/2023 season he has been the Permanent Guest Conductor of the Philharmonie Baden-Baden and since 2021/2022 – of the Varna State Opera. He has received numerous calls as guest conductor of the Vienna Staatsoper (2016 – 2020) and the Zurich Opera House (2012 – 2021).
He has worked with many orchestras all over the world, making numerous guest appearances with, for example, the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra – Copenhagen, the Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, the Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier Occitanie, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra – Taiwan, the Walt Disney Studio Orchestra in Los Angeles, the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra, etc.
Pavel Baleff performs with world artists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Edita Gruberová, Thomas Hampson, Krassimira Stoyanova, Vesselina Kasarova, Luca Pisaroni, Ramón Vargas, Diana Damrau, Nicolas Testé, Piotr Beczała, Anna Netrebko. Krassimira Stoyanova’s recitals Slavonic Opera Arias, Verdi Arias and Verismo under the musical direction of Pavel Baleff received the “International Classical Music Award 2012”, the German Music Critics’ Annual Award for 2012 as well as the German Music Critics’ Award for 2014 and 2017.
In 1995 Pavel Baleff graduated from Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music in the conducting classes of Prof. Vassil Kazandjiev and Prof. Georgi Robev. In 1995 – 1998 he specialized in Weimar, Germany.
He won First Prize at the Carl Maria von Weber International Competition for Conductors (1996) in Munich, First Prize at the National Competition of Higher Schools of Music in Germany (1999) in Weimar, the Herbert von Karajan Prize, the Representative Prize for Conductors of the City of Bad Homburg (2003).
Pavel Baleff has led the Chamber Opera Orchestra in Dresden, was the first conductor and music director of the opera houses in Rostock (1999 – 2002) and Halle (2002 – 2008). From 2007 to 2022 he was Principal Conductor of the Philharmonie Baden-Baden and Artistic Director of the International Summer Academy Karl Flesch in collaboration with the Concertmasters of the Berlin Philharmonic. He is guest conductor of the Hamburg Staatsoper, Komische Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, the Operas of Stuttgart, Leipzig, Hanover and Bremen and of over 60 orchestras in Germany.
