ORFEY PETROV graduated from “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Music Academy in the opera singing class of prof. Russko Ruskov. He specialized in Rome under Boris Hristov, Aldo Protti and Elena Nicolai. He is a laureate of national and international competitions: First Prize at the Tito Scippa Singing Competition in Lecce, Italy, Third Prize at the Young Opera Singers Competition in Sofia, and at the Belvedere Competition in Vienna he was awarded the Special Prize of the Semperoper – Dresden and was invited for the main baritone roles in Verdi’s La Traviata and A Masked Ball, as well as in Wagner’s Lohengrin conducted by Rolf Reuter. In 1986 he joined the Sofia Opera, where he performed an extensive baritone repertoire under the baton of the distinguished Bulgarian conductors Assen Naydenov, Ivan Marinov, Ruslan Raichev, Boris Khinchev, Nedyalko Nedyalkov. He works with the Schlote Salzburg Concert Directorate. He has performed the central baritone roles in Verdi’s Rigoletto, La Traviata, Il Trovatore and A Masked Ball, and in Puccini’s La Boheme, Madame Butterfly and Tosca on the stages of various opera houses in Europe. Since 2007 he has been an artist chorister in thе National Philharmonic Choir.
