Nikolay Genov

Nikolay Genov is Bulgarian by origin and currently a naturalized Brazilian. He engaged music studies at the age of eight, and at ten began to study horn with his father, Alippi Tsvetkov Genov, lead soloist of the Bourgas Symphony Orchestra and the Bourgas Opera Orchestra. Subsequently, Genov entered the Bourgas School of Music in the class of Todor Todorov. He has appeared as soloist of the Bourgas Symphony Orchestra in Mozart and Richard Strauss horn concertos. He participated in the seminars of Prof. Hermann Baumann and Prof. Peter Damm. Genov is winner of numerous awards, including the first place at the competition for best interpretation of Russian music (Bourgas), the special prize at the seminar on the occasion of the 250 anniversary of the horn school (Plovdiv) and first place at the competition held by the national Academy of Music (Sofia). In 1990, Genov enrolled at the national Academy of Music, Sofia, where he graduated from the Bachelor and Master's programs under Prof. Vladislav Grigorov. The following year he became the principal horn of the Jeunesses Musicales Youth Symphony Orchestra, performing under the baton of Okko Camu and Myung-whun Chung at concerts in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland. Together with the Bulgarian National Orchestra, Genov has participated in the conductor's course in Sienna, Italy from 1991 to 1995. In 1992, he assumed the position of principal horn on the Sinfonietta Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio and stayed in this capacity until his departure for Brazil in 1996, where he also functions as the first horn of the Orquestra Sinfônica de Ribeirão Preto led by Roberto Minczuk. In the period 2000-2001, Nikolay Genov played the first horn of the São Paulo Municipal Symphonic Orchestra (the resident orchestra at the Theatro Municipal), and then joined the OSESP - Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo. In 2010, along with other musicians from the orchestra, he formed the Camargo Guarnieri wind quintet, performing regularly with it in various estados (federal regions) of Brazil. Nikolay Genov is a professor at Escola de Música do Estado de São Paulo ('Sao Paulo State Music School') – EMESP Tom Jobim and the Escola Municipal de Música de São Paulo. Member of the chamber orchestras for contemporary music Camerata Aberta and Percorso Ensemble. He has taught lessons at the horn summer courses in Londrina, 2007 and 2014, Tatui 2011 and Campos do Jordão 2015.
