Mauro Mariani

Mauro Mariani is an Italian conductor, cellist and composer, born into a family of musicians, whose career unfolds across major European opera houses, symphony orchestras and international conducting academies. His artistic profile is marked by stylistic breadth, a strong operatic orientation and sustained recognition at international competitions.

In 2026 he was awarded a scholarship by the Bayreuth Festival and selected for The Mahler Competition with the Bamberger Symphoniker. The 2025 season included La traviata with the Niederrheinischen Sinfonikern in Krefeld-Mönchengladbach, his debut with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra (Copland, Franck), participation in the Gstaad Conducting Academy with Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla and Jaap van Zweden, and a Conducting Fellowship at the Cabrillo Festival under Cristian Măcelaru. He also made debuts with Orchestra Sinfonica di Bari and Volkstheater Rostock, while serving as Music and Artistic Director of the Junge Kammerphilharmonie Berlin.

Winner of First Prize at the IV Almería International Conducting Competition (2024), Mariani has been a three-time Aspen Music Festival Conducting Fellow and a finalist at the VIII Lovro von Matačić Competition with the Zagreb Philharmonic. He conducted the French premiere of Dora Pejačević’s Symphony op. 41 in Strasbourg and was selected by Daniele Gatti to conduct Rigoletto at the Chigiana Festival in Siena.

His training includes participation in the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich Conductor’s Academy with Paavo Järvi, the Panula Academy in Turku, and the European Creative Academy with Péter Eötvös. Since 2021 he has been Artistic and Music Director of the Orchestre Universitaire Strasbourg and a regular guest conductor of the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina. He studied conducting with Nicolás Pasquet in Weimar and has assisted conductors including Juanjo Mena and Vladimir Jurowski.
