MARIA TSVETKOVA – MADZHAROVA (Soprano) was born in Burgas. She graduated from the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music – Sofia in the Opera singing class of prof. Ressa Koleva. In 1994 she won the Special Prize at the XIV Svetoslav Obretenov National Competition in Provadia. Soloist of the State Opera – Burgas and State Opera – Ruse. She has appeared on the stages of the National Opera – Sofia, the State Music Theatre Stefan Makedonski – Sofia, as well as Varna Opera, Plovdiv Opera, Stara Zagora Opera. She has participated in many international projects with tours in Italy, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, USA, China.
The singer’s rich repertoire includes many central roles: Susanna and the Countess from The Marriage of Figaro, Despina and Fiordiligi from Cossi Fan Tutte, Donna Anna and Cerlina from Don Giovanni, Blonda and Constanze from W. А. Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio; Rosina from Rossini’s The Barber of Seville; Violetta from La Traviata, Gilda from Rigoletto, Oscar from Verdi’s Masked Ball; Adina from Love Potion and Norina from Donizetti’s Don Pasquale; Musetta and Mimi from Puccini’s La Boheme, Liu from Turandot; Stassi and Silva from Kalman’s The Csardas Princess; Adela from J. Strauss Jr. The Bat; Katerina Izmailova from Shostakovich’s opera of the same name; the Marschalline from Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier; Maria Dessislava from Parashkev Hadjiev’s opera of the same name, etc.
Maria Tsvetkova-Madzharova has also been a soloist in major cantata-oratorio works: Requiem and Coronation Mass by Mozart, Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, oratorio St. Trinity by Bach, Ninth Symphony by Beethoven, German Requiem by Brahms, Carmina Burana and Catulli Carmina by Orff, Solemn Mass by Rutter, The Armed Man by Jenkins, Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber, etc.
In 2015 she got the Crystal Lyre from the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dance Artists for the title role in Shostakovich’s opera Katerina Izmailova and was nominated by the Berlin-based Opernvelt magazine in the Best Singers category in the annual opera critics’ ranking. She won the 2017 Musician of the Year award in the listener’s poll of the Allegro Vivace programme on the Bulgarian National Radio. In 2018 she received the special award in the field of art of the city of Burgas, a plaque and a diploma St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
