Mariya Slavova

MARIYA SLAVOVA (soprano) captivates audiences with the crystal-clear timbre of her voice and the virtuosity and emotional depth of her performances. The young singer's musical journey began at an early age, first with the renowned children’s vocal group “Bon Bon”, and later, from 2004 to 2017, as a chorister and soloist with the Bulgarian National Radio Children’s Choir, appearing in concerts at some of the world’s most prestigious halls. In 2015, she performed at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with her rendition of the official theme song “Discover.” In 2016, she sang the solo part of the Bulgarian national anthem at a benefit concert for Hristo Stoichkov. In 2017, while still a high school senior, she received the Stoyan Kambarev Grand Prize for Excellence in the Arts. On that occasion, she remarked: “I believe that people should do what they love and enjoy. For me, that is undoubtedly singing. I can’t imagine not doing it because it’s my calling. I believe in every one of my dreams and I achieve them with the power of music!” (Impreso, April 19, 2017) Mariya Slavova is a student of opera prima Darina Takova, her permanent mentor and teacher. Her training has taken place in prestigious master classes, competitions, and festivals. At the age of 18, she was accepted into Raina Kabaivanska’s master class, and shortly afterwards into the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music. In 2021, she became a laureate of the Fourth International Competition for Young Opera Singers “Ghena Dimitrova”, where, amid very strong competition,she was awarded third prize + Special Prize of the Ghena Dimitrova Foundation. Since 2022, she has been a specialist at the Boris Christoff Academy at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Rome. Highlights of her performances include her debut as Adina in Gaetano Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore and in Don Giovanni at the Burgas, Varna, and Stara Zagora opera houses, Frasquita in Bizet's Carmen in the Burgas Opera's performance on the open-air stage of the Thracian sanctuary of Begliktash (August 2024). She is a soloist in Mendelssohn's Symphony-Cantata No. 2 Hymn of Praise with the Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra (2021) and participates in the Gala Concert of Bulgarian Talent (2024). For the young soprano, 2025 is a professionally intense and successful year: she plays the role of Stasi in the premiere performance of the Burgas Opera's The Queen of the Csardas by Emmerich Kalman; she is a finalist in the "Città di Alcamo" International Competition for Opera Singers; represented Bulgaria at EXPO in Osaka, Japan; made her debut in the role of Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor in Fano (Italy). In October, she made her debut in the role of the Queen of the Night in Mozart's opera The Magic Flute at the State Opera in Plovdiv; She was a soloist in the Opera Galaxy concerts with Georgi Cherkin and others. Mariya Slavova's participation in John Rutter's Requiem is her first performance with the Sofia Philharmonic.
