MARGARITA ILIEVA graduated from the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School at the classes of Emilia Kaneva, Daniela Cherpokova and Ivelina Kazandjieva and Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music in the classes of Prof. Stella Dimitrova-Maystorova, Prof. Ilia Chernaev PhD, Prof. Viktor Chouchkov and Assoc. Prof. Marina Kapitanova. In 2015 she got her PhD in chamber music, since 2021 she has been an associate professor in the Piano Department at the Theoretical and Composition and Conducting Dept. She is a recipient of the Diploma for Creative Achievements of the Ministry of Culture (2019) and the Crystal Lyre (2016).
She has given concerts in Bulgaria and abroad, at the festivals “ppIANISSIMO”, “Puplinge Classique”, “Sofia Music Weeks”, “Apollonia”, “New Bulgarian Music”, “Varna Summer”, “Days of Music in Balabanov’s House”, etc. She has recorded for WDR – Cologne, Bulgarian National Radio, Bulgarian National Television.
She has been a soloist of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Soloists Chamber Ensemble, under the baton of H. Andreesku, E. Tabakov, G. Palikarov, P. Djоurov, Hr. Pavlov, K. Ilievski, I. Stoyanov, etc.
She has participated in various formations and chamber ensembles, especially her work in the ensemble for contemporary music “Musica Nova” with the leader and conductor Dr. Yosifov. She has performed with prominent Bulgarian and foreign musicians, such as pianists S. Dimitrova-Maystorova, R. Yovchev, B. Taneva, B. Yusupov, N. Tsanova, R. Traykov; the cellists An. Krastev, At. Krastev, K. Krasteva, St. Kazaku, M. Ledstroem, the singers V. Nikolova, E. Mehandzhiyska, E. Chavdarova-Isa, S. Pravcheva, M. Apostolov, P. Danailov, A. Mladenov, P. Kumpikov, I. Tyrion; N. Stoykov – flute, S. Peev – violin, R. Idealov – clarinet, R. Patkolo – double bass.
Her repertoire spans various styles and eras, with a particular emphasis on music of the 20th and 21st centuries. She has given numerous world and Bulgarian premieres of works by V. Kazandjiev, J. Tsenova, B. Taneva, B. Spasov, P. Dundakov, Sv. Hristov, A. Mastrangelo, B. Yusupov, G. de Frumerie, P. van Bruhe, A. Vagendristel, R. Freizitzer, etc.
In recent years, she has been involved in the organization and presentation of educational projects such as “On the Trail of Talent” of the Bulgarian National Radio, “Who is Behind the Music” of the Divertimento Formation and “Figures of Baroque”.
